So I teach as an intern for the work place English program. This is two hours, one hour teaching and an hour debriefing. Today when I got out of class we were walking and talking. When we got to the bike racks it turns out that my bike was stolen. They clipped the lock. Granted, my lock was not the best, so not a U LOCK, so I was not as careful as I should have been. But still, why steal from somebody? I guess they need the money more than I need transportation. Unfortunately, with tuition due this week I do not really have the money to replace it :(
It really tied the room together
lol Steve Holt!

Of all the Protoss out there I believe that Liquid Tyler is the most calculated one, except for maybe Artosis.
Any how: Tyler is streaming currently and his name in SC2 is now Nony!
This excites me greatly
There seems to be no way to avoid what is going on in the world. It seems that violence is on the rise and that the crazy people that are in control of the situations are out to have the world die. How can they be stopped. Is it a matter of democracy? Did democracy stop vietnam, korea, libya, Iraq, Afghanistan? It seems that democracy has failed because of plausible deniability and a lack of responsibility or better yet not recognizing the responsibility that we all have in the US for the wars that our politicians are fighting. Right now, our government is bombing people. Does the reason matter? Should we ever bomb anybody? Does anybody deserve to be bombed?
Boys who pretend to be soldiers watch in awe with their cameras as we waste thousands of dollars to kill PEOPLE. PEOPLE are dying because of our actions and inactions. Our democracy is KILLING people on a regular basis, while we bicker about Obamacare, his citizensship, Romney’s taxes, or Gingrichs wives. What the fuck is wrong with us?
We are killing people. Think about this for a second. WE ARE KILLING PEOPLE(woman, children, men, fathers, brothers, lovers, sisters, grandmothers, daughters). It is only when we realize that one child is all of our child. A human child is exactly that: a child of humanity. No one would abduct their own child with malevolent intent. No one would bomb their own child, mother, father, brother, sister, lover, companion, daughter, or son. Would you destroy the live of those you love? Why do you not love all humans? Are they not your own kind? SO WHY DO YOU VOTE FOR THOSE WHO DO?! Romney, Obama, Gingrich, Huntsman are all the same person of war. Vote anybody that does not want war.
When considering aliens and contact with humans I am often confronted with the statement “It is the height of hubris to think we(humans) are special enough to warrant the attention of a species that has the capability of traveling interstellar distances.”
Indeed sir it is arrogant of humans to think that we would be the, or even a, reason that aliens would visit. An anthropocentric statement from a species that believes in its own importance.
Humans are currently searching for extra terrestrial intelligence. The way this is done is to look for other planets that seem to be in the goldie locks zone. Basically, a similar distant from their star as the Earth is from the Sun. This seems like a reasonable approach, if not a bit limited.
As a quick aside: to assume that all life is going to be carbon based is a thought that also grounded in anthropocentrism. Life could also be silicon based or any other possibility. Yes, there are certain element that bond with a greater number of other elements, but this just means that it is less likely but not out of the realm of possibility given how many billions years of galactic time have occurred and will occur.
Back to how humans search for life outside Earth. We look for other planets that look like they could be similar to the one we have the pleasure to ride upon. So far we have not been very successful. Recently, there was a discovery of a planet in the zone, but this is still only one in the fifty some odd years we have been looking.
This is the point! In all the time we have been looking we have only found one other one that might be conducive to life, in the fashion we are accustomed to here.
Imagine you are a species that has developed interstellar flight and you are cruising around the galaxy Star Trek style looking for knowledge or new places to live. While out on a patrol in the sticks, your sensors find a planet is that is covered in H2O(water on the surface of a planet seems to be a rare thing). This is what would bring aliens to our planets. But they would stay to observe the local flavor.
The pale blue dot is the attractor like the colors on the flower. Humans are looking for the type of planet we live on so why would aliens not be doing the same thing. The Earth is the best magnet of attention one could hope for in a part of the galaxy that seems to be devoid of this type of planet.
So the other day my room mate was complaining about how the hot water does not last long enough for the shower. This morning I found out why: he takes twenty minute showers. /facepalm
The way I see it, and there could be more, there are four lenses with which to view the world events:
People are acting in good faith and succeed.
This is the least important case because things went well. If people are acting in good faith then there is not much to worry about. By good faith I mean that they service to others oriented. This does not mean one does not care about themselves it just means that they recognize the value of Hobbes Leviathon. Humans are social and it is in all humans best interest to maintain a sort of civilization.
People are acting in good faith and fail.
This is ok too because not every body can get everything right all the time. Sometimes people fail. These are the greatest opportunities for learning.
People are acting in bad faith and succeed.
This lens would generally be considered the conspiracy lens. These are people who are acting for the benefit of themselves or their group, generally at the cost of the leviathon. The gulf of Tonkin is an excellent example of this. Certain people wanted war with Vietnam and they used a non event to do so.
People are acting in bad faith and fail.
This means that malevolent intent people do not get their way. THis is a good thing for people acting in good faith.
If one uses these lenses to analyze the events of the day, the world becomes far less chaotic and patterns will emerge.
I want to conclude this post with a note on ideology. Some people do not believe that small groups of people could wield enough influence to affect geopolitics around the world. They believe that secrets can not be held. This, in my opinion, is the wrong way to look at it. It is more about an ideology. Is it possible for an ideology to take root and affect geopolitics around the world?
The best way to understand this is the Lisbon treaty in the EU. This treaty, or the versions of it, was rejected on numerous occasions by the citizens who got to vote, note that not all countries in the EU even got a chance to vote on it. It was voted down every time the vote happened, yet the treaty still passed?
Another example is United States Foreign Policy. A student of history will be well aware that regardless of who is in power, democrat, whig, or republican, the foreign policy of the United States generally does not change. To really hit this home look at Obama. We are still using drone strikes, sometimes to kill american citizens, that cause a lot of collateral damage. We are still occupying two countries, even though combat troops have left Iraq there are still military contractors. The US is still holding people without trial and torturing them. The war machine is set to gear up against Iran and or Syria. We helped to overthrow Libya. The NDAA. SOPA PIPA are only postponed and the FBI still shuts down who they wish, megaupload.
Finally, after using the four lenses one must ask themselves “who gains from this?”
When the US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, who gained the most from it?
When Libya was overthrown who gained from it? If we Invad Iran who gains?
are making it difficult to ladder successfully. I will be playing an interesting game and then bam crashes, and I have to restart my machine. :(
Since the point are meaningless that is not what bothers me. It was the investment of time in the game to learn something and just when I can get to learning something really interesting, the game crashes. nine of sadface
